Since 1994, the former remand prison of the East German Ministry of State Security, has served as a memorial site. As part of the refurbishment, carried out according to plans drawn up by architectural firm hg merz and in line with conservation practices, museumstechnik berlin was commissioned to install a 700 m2 solid wall panel featuring recessed display cabinets. The substructure required for this comprised approximately 8 tonnes of steel. The recessed display cases are fitted with fibre-optic lighting with 400 light outlets. In addition to the display case lighting, in the 700 m2 permanent exhibition there are also 145 LED lights installed on 160 metres of bus bars. The lighting in the 200 m2 temporary exhibition space comprises pendant light fixtures suspended from 140 metres of aluminium extruded sections beneath the ceiling.
